The Bags Story

Glitz and Sparkle

Starting the year with with a bit of Glamour and a new clutch bag design

I am starting the year with some glitz and sparkle that can take you out to any occasion. The purple bag is made from remnants, both tweeds are vintage Hinnigan. The dark purple has sparkle woven through it and I seem to recall it was commissioned by a dance troupe. The flap was made from just a tiny scrap so this bag cannot be re-made. Mr Hinnigan no longer makes or design fabrics so every piece is rather special. They were designed in Selkirk. The lining is woven in England.

The other two bags also have a story too, they are made from a jacket designed by fashion Designer Caroline Church. The fabric is a work of art. Silk patchwork with appliqued fabric pieces on top that creates texture, colour and waves. There is lots of gold bits so its very glitzy. I acquired the jacket from a friend in London, who I assume enjoyed wearing it. I chose to make two of my new style large clutch bags. I finished one bag off with a large vintage button, from my rather large collection and the other with a tuck-in panel, which I made from some remnants of silk that I had acquired over the years. The lining of these bags is fabulously colourful, I purchased it from a local Mill in Galashiels that was closing many years ago. It has been sad to see these industries disappear from the landscape. Just a few now hanging on in there. I have a tiny bit of the Caroline Church fabric left. But not enough for a bag. So again there are only two and both are unique.

Hopefully whoever purchases these bags will enjoy there storys and add adventures to them!
